The Goethe-Zertifikat C1 consists of 4 modules (Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking). You pass each module from 60% of the maximum points. Modules can be retaken individually. Writing: Part 1 a discussion contribution (~230 words) + Part 2 a formal message (~120 words), graded on 4 criteria: task achievement, logical flow (Kohärenz), vocabulary and structures, each on levels A to E.

The Goethe C1 Writing module consists of two parts. Part 1 is a discussion contribution for an internet forum, Part 2 a formal message. Total working time 75 minutes.

How long should my text be?
Part 1 (forum discussion contribution) about 230 words, Part 2 (formal message) about 120 words — roughly 350 words in total.
Can I choose between two topics?
No. Both parts have a fixed task; the Writing module does not offer a choice of topics.
How is the exam graded?
The exam is graded by two independent examiners. If there are major discrepancies, a third examiner decides.
