Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official topic list for the Goethe C1 exam?
No. The Goethe-Institut publishes no topic list. Tasks are built from 6 recurring topic areas (work, education, society, environment, technology, health) — a different topic per module, always phrased as a debate question that requires no expert knowledge.
How many topics should I actually prepare for Goethe C1?
Plan for 12–15 micro-topics, i.e. 2–3 debate questions per topic area. Per question: 20–30 C1 words, 5–7 arguments per side and 1–2 concrete examples or figures. Don't memorise — think them through: what is graded is whether you can take a differentiated position.
