How is the DSH text production (Textproduktion) graded?
The DSH assesses your text in two blocks: content and structure (completeness, coherent thread, topic development) and language use (accuracy, word choice, sentence construction). Each university sets the exact weighting itself — at many, language counts more than content.
Does language or content count more in the DSH?
Language counts more: the model examination regulations (MPO 2025) explicitly require weighting the linguistic aspects more heavily; an equal 50:50 split is not provided for. Each university sets the exact ratio itself (e.g. about 30 % content at the University of Duisburg-Essen). In practice: clean grammar and word choice often decide more than one extra content point.
What percentage do you need to pass the DSH?
The levels follow the percentage score, in the written AND the oral exam each on its own: DSH-1 from 57 percent, DSH-2 from 67 percent, DSH-3 from 82 percent. There is no weighted overall grade. For admission most universities require at least DSH-2 (the university decides).
